Review "Children's Thinking" by David F. Bjorkland

While it's great that we alternative text to understand how epigenetics affects our young students, take a deeper look into epigenetics, based on more scientific thinking. According to David Bjorklund, epigenetics involves specific complex interactions of an organism to regulate their gene expression and not the genetic code (2012). This means that a person could have a specific gene that causes a disease, but a series of co-actions either within the environment, lifestyle, or other factors essentially prohibit the gene from expressing itself within that individual. His studies provide a more in-depth analysis of the diagrams that you viewed in Scientific American, but he also provides more comparison with how epigenesis affects cognitive development in children.

The text also has more biological data than most of the texts that we have read, so feel free to write down any notes you have about the reading. Don't be afraid to research terms you are unfamiliar with as well! We are all here to learn, and I advocate you all taking the time to learn more about topics concerned with your future students!
